| Overview | Located in northern Hokkaido, Monbetsu City has a thriving agriculture and fishing industry and is famous for tourism as it faces the Sea of Okhotsk, the only place in Japan where drift ice comes in contact with the shore. In recent years, amidst the growing interest in IoT, we proposed a data distribution service using smart water meters to the customer, who was facing issues such as securing meter readers and countermeasures against erroneous meter readings, and the service was adopted for its economic efficiency and high security. This system enables meter reading and management from a PC in the city hall without having to go to the site, through LPWA communication lines, of 30 meters installed in difficult-to-read locations such as villages several tens of kilometers away from the city center and companies with restricted access. Customers have commented that the system has improved the efficiency of meter reading operations without the hassle of installing a system, and has also led to improved services for residents through early detection of water leaks, etc. |
